Dr. Sofie Champassak

Director,

Licensed Psychologist

Unfortunately we are not accepting any new clients at this time. Please email Dr. Sofie (click here) if you would like to be added to her wait-list.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY30201) and the director of the San Diego Center for Stress & Healthy Aging (CS&HA). I trained in a variety of settings (Click here to learn more about where) and I have completed an APA accredited internship and residency with the Los Angeles and San Diego VA Healthcare Systems. My research has focused on motivation, health, and patient-provider communication.

I have expertise in enhancing client’s motivation, confidence, and commitment with health related changes. I combine this expertise with treatments supported by research to help adults and older adults improve their lives.

Some of my areas of practice include:

  • Behavioral health change (e.g., increasing physical activity, improving diet)

  • Stress and adjustment

  • Depression

  • Generalized anxiety

  • Social anxiety

  • Panic disorder

  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) or sexuality-related concerns

  • Trauma /Post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Smoking cessation

  • Grief

  • Self-esteem

I understand how awkward and difficult therapy can be. I try my best to help my clients feel comfortable and safe to share their thoughts, concerns, and feelings with me. My approach is to balance awareness, change, and self-compassion. My clients find my style engaging while also being affirming, humorous, and kind.

When I’m not working, I make self-care a priority and enjoy spending my time with loved ones, being outside and enjoying the warmth of the sun, cooking, eating, and trying different restaurants and breweries around town.
